Celebrating the rich heritage of Japan here in Australia.

七五三

Because I moved away from the country where I was born at such a young age, I can understand the important need to continue the traditions from your homeland to wherever you go.

Many families here might not have a kimono to wear, yet want to celebrate their children’s milestones, such as Shichigosan. My mum, a qualified kimono fitter, will provide kimonos from our own family and help dress your child, and I will capture them in the beautiful colours of the kimono juxtaposed against the colours of the Australian nature, and together we will help you to celebrate this important Japanese coming-of-age tradition.

ABOUT US

ABOUT: AIMAMA

愛ママ

My mum, Shizuko, whom we have affectionately named ‘Aimama’ (translates to Love Mama), is a qualified kimono & jyuunihitoe dresser.

Aimama has a certification in kimono dressing from Hakubi Kimono Authorisation, Tokyo, Japan, & has been helping men, women, & children dress in kimonos since 1985.

ABOUT: ANGELA

I’m Angela, or ‘Koh-chan’, & I absolutely love capturing the happiness in peoples’ lives, & with a name like 幸 (meaning happiness), how could I not?! For me, as someone who only spent a small portion of her life living in Japan, celebrating its rich heritage is incredibly important so that it is not forgotten. Shichigosan is a wonderful tradition & it is such a special way to honour the place where we come from & those who came before us. I can speak both Japanese & English, though my reading & writing in Japanese is that of a second grade level.

Prices subject to change. Your session time & price are
only locked in after the booking fee of $200 has been paid.

  • Once you have booked your session, you will receive a prep guide that will help you to prepare for your session and a location guide to help you choose where you would like to have the images taken. I will also be available to chat on the phone (in either English or Japanese) to discuss details and answer questions.

  • The session fee includes travel within 30 min from Lane Cove (Post Office) by car. If you would like to have your session further away, please let me know and I can send you a quote.

  • Trust me when I say that kids don’t like to stay in the many layers of the kimono for very long. 20 minutes is plenty of time to capture portraits of your child in the kimono, as well as some family photos too. When you add a sibling, I add 5 minutes to ensure that I have enough time to capture individual portraits of them too.

If you would like a longer session, my Playtime or Adventure packages as part of my Lifestyle Photography Sessions might suit you better. Click here to have a look!

  • Not at this time, although I am looking into it. Please ask if this is something you are interested in, and I can let you know what I have available at the time.

If you have your own kimono that you would like to wear, please let me know. Aimama is available to help dress you too*, however we need to factor in that time for everyone involved.

*This may include a small fee.

  • YES! Families are welcome to join in for a few photos after the child in the kimono has been photographed on their own. Please arrive dressed & ready to be photographed, as we won’t have much time to get everyone ready.

  • The kimonos for hire are the ones that I myself wore for my own Shichigosan back in 1993 and 1997, and my sister two years after that. My children have also worn them (the ones who have been old enough to), & they are treasured heirlooms.

I am also adding to my kimono wardrobe, so I will let you know if I have other options for you.
